In between working at the project and going to the gym which is what I normally fill my days with, I do enjoy me some adventure. And the perks of living here in Bolivia is that you don’t have to travel very far to find one. 🙂
Last Saturday Irene and I got up early to climb up to the Christ of Peace statue – Cristo de la concordia. I’ve learned that this one is actually larger than the famous Christ in Rio de Janeiro, making it the largest one in the world. I’m not very religious myself but the whole challenge of climbing up those 2,000 stairs to the top and seeing the fantastic view of the valley of Cochabamba was is really the best reward.
Today I joined my host mom’s son, Dennis, and his friends to go mountaineering! It was a challenge indeed but also super fun and I made it all the way up on 2 out of 3 climbs. Figured that it’s not so much about being strong as it is about learning the techniques. Although it might have been a bit easier with out my long finger nails ..oh well, lesson learned for next time. 😉
